The major phone manufacturers are always looking for new ways to protect user data. In particular, quantum security is considered one of the technology standards of the future, and VinSmart - a Vietnam young smartphone maker is trying to apply it for their new launching product series.

How is data on the phone protected?

In addition to the familiar numerical security method on iOS or Android, phone manufacturers have recently developed other forms of security such as fingerprints, irises, or faces.

What these methods have in common is the use of pre-confirmed information (password, face, or fingerprint) to authenticate with the phone. The device only unlocks when it detects that this is the user's correct information.

After algorithmic encryption, the user's initial password becomes a random sequence of numbers.

Despite the growing popularity of biometric security, passwords are still the most basic and popular. Inside the phone, the password goes through the encryption algorithm and becomes a random string to ensure that the user can neither find it nor read the user's data. Therefore, the higher the randomness of the sequence, the harder it is for the password to be decoded.

But even though it is called "random", the encryption algorithm that generates the numbers still uses certain rules. For example, the algorithm might use 5 random characters, combining the same key generation time to concatenate a string. As long as a computer is powerful enough, it is possible to reverse this algorithm.

At the end of 2019, Google announced the 54-qubit Sycamore quantum processor with the ability to perform a number of computations in 200 seconds, equivalent to the most modern supercomputer in 10,000 years. With this power, breaking modern encryption algorithms becomes increasingly simple.

To deal with these attacks, manufacturers will reserve a chip that specializes in encrypting, generating random chains, and storing the personal information of users. This chip works independently of the rest of the system. Even when the operating system is compromised and modified, the own chip ensures the data is safe.

The trend of security with quantum chips

On the Vsmart Aris Series phones, instead of using a single algorithm to generate random chains, the manufacturer combines quantum security chips with Google's algorithms to enhance the security of the data.

The QRNG quantum security chip uses an LED bulb that emits a random number of photons traveling through an image sensor. This move process will generate a sequence of raw random numbers (raw random numbers).

LED bulbs emit a series of random numbers of photons that travel through the light sensor to produce a sequence of coarse random numbers.
This sequence then goes through an algorithm that generates random data bits according to the NIST 800-90A / B / C standard before returning the final result for the device to use. Next, this data is combined with the algorithm provided by Google to create a random data pool "data pool" to use for the system.

In other words, this chip is capable of quantum computation many times faster than traditional semiconductor chips, thereby creating true random chains that cannot be decoded. As a result, the data security capabilities on the Vsmart Aris Series products are higher than the traditional security chips.

By cooperating with the quantum security company ID Quantique (Switzerland), VinSmart has become one of the first manufacturers to apply quantum security chips to smartphones. The Vsmart Aris product line uses Quantis QRNG IDQ250C2 chip dedicated to smartphones, with the advantage of being small in size, consuming less energy.

In the period of increasing attention to online transactions as well as users' personal information security needs, the quantum security chip is an important feature on the Vsmart Aris product line, providing peace of mind for users.

VinSmart said that third-party applications can also exploit the security power of the quantum chip on the Vsmart Aris Series product line. As a result, this smartphone will enhance the security of all applications on the phone.
